Complete UV Protection
Protect Your Eyes with the New UVProtect Technology from ZEISS
Conventional eyeglass lenses do not fully block UV rays with wavelengths of up to 400 nm. Because of this, UV radiation passes through the lens and can damage your eyes and the skin around your eyes. That's why our ZEISS eyeglass lenses feature innovative UVProtect Technology.
The Importance of Good Eyesight
Did You Know That UV Radiation Can Seriously Damage Our Eyes?
When you are outdoors, UV radiation is all around you. All year round, at any time of the day, in sunny conditions or even on cloudy days. While we can protect our skin with clothing and sunscreen, the only way to protect our eyes from UV radiation is to wear lenses with UV protection. Sunglasses usually protect against UV rays, but many prescription lens wearers either don't have sunglasses or find it tiring to keep switching prescriptions and sunglasses.
How Can UV Rays Harm Us?
UV radiation has a very high energy level. Without an adequate level of UV protection, certain sun rays can damage our skin and our eyes in different ways.
UVA and UVB rays - both types can be harmful.
UV radiation that reaches sea level is classified into two basic types: UVA and UVB radiation. UVA rays (in the wavelength range of 315 to 400 nm) and UVB rays (between 280 and 315 nm) can severely damage our skin and eyes, both with immediate and long-term effects. Damage varies from eyelid sunburns, conjunctivitis and photokeratitis to premature skin aging or pterygium, a tissue growth on the conjunctiva. Excessive UV radiation can lead to skin cancer of the eyelids and can contribute to the development of cataracts.

What UV Protection Do We Recommend Against UVA and UVB Rays?
Health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and other important bodies in the medical field strongly recommend protection against UV radiation, which is defined as radiation with a wavelength of up to 400 nm. Many sunglasses block harmful UV radiation up to 380 nm. However, as research has shown, nearly 40% of harmful UV radiation is between 380 and 400 nm. In 2018, ZEISS set new standards by incorporating full UV protection with a wavelength of up to 400 nm into ZEISS clear lenses! Thanks to innovative ZEISS technology, our "everyday lenses" provide the same UV protection as top-quality sunglasses - thus ensuring maximum safety and exceptional vision all year round.
Recommendation
Do not take any risks when it comes to your eye health! Ensure you’re wearing lenses with full UV protection during the day, regardless of the season. Both sunglasses and day-to-day lenses should be able to filter UV radiation of wavelengths up to 400 nm to eliminate the risk of eye damage.
