Spectacle Lens Coating
High-performance lens coatings turn spectacle lenses into a truly versatile product.
Whether anti-reflective, scratch-resistant or easy to clean - the right lens coating can help ensure exceptional vision. The coatings all come with a number of practical functions and are among the key features of a pair of glasses. But what coatings are available - and what are their benefits?
Most Renowned ZEISS Coatings
DuraVision® Platinum
DuraVision®Platinum is our premium coating: it's the hardest lens coating ZEISS has ever produced – meaning it offers the best protection against scratches. Its anti-reflective function minimizes reflections, and the lenses remain clear.
Anyone you talk to will see the exceptional anti-reflective properties of the DuraVision® Platinum coating due to reduced reflections on the front and back of your lenses. ZEISS DuraVision® Platinum has 50% fewer reflections** compared to an uncoated lens.
Standard anti-reflective coatings use green hues – unfortunately, this is also the colour the human eye is most sensitive to. ZEISS therefore uses blue reflections because they are less noticeable and distracting.
Their extremely smooth yet hard surface also repels dirt, making them much easier to clean. This guarantees permanent visual comfort, outstanding visibility, and makes your glasses last longer.
On the back of the eyeglass lens, as part of the DuraVision Platinum coating, there is a UV protective coating that protects against harmful UV radiation that occurs when the sun's rays come from the back and are reflected into the eye. Together with ZEISS UV Protect Technology that absorbs UV rays within the lens itself, this combination of absorption and blocking of indirect harmful light together represents the most comprehensive protection against UV rays.
DuraVision® BlueProtect
Our coating for blue light protection. ZEISS DuraVision® BlueProtect reflects part of the blue-violet light emitted by digital devices. This results in less transmittance in the harmful blue light spectrum (380-455 nm). At the same time, the lenses have a high level of transmittance for beneficial blue light (> 460 nm), which helps regulate the sleep cycle, provides additional comfort and helps reduce digital eye strain.
DuraVision® BlueProtect is therefore ideal for people who spend a lot of time using their smartphones, laptops or tablets and are either sensitive to blue light or want to protect their eyes from blue-violet light because they are concerned about their eye health.
In addition to the blue light filter, ZEISS DuraVision® BlueProtect lenses feature a hard coating that protects against scratches and a CleanCoat finish for easy cleaning.
Our advice: for protection against uncomfortable blue light, we recommend choosing BlueGuard eyeglass lenses. These lenses have blue light protection incorporated directly into the material and have significantly less residual blue reflection compared to BlueProtect
DuraVision® DriveSafe coating
ZEISS DriveSafe lenses feature an innovative coating as standard - DuraVision®DriveSafe is specially developed for people who are exposed to glare while driving.
Light emissions at night or intense light from the headlights of oncoming cars with Xenon or LED technology can irritate our eyes and cause glare. Glare is a big risk on the road because it limits our vision and reduces our eyes’ contrast sensitivity.
That's why the DuraVision® DriveSafe coating is especially useful, as it enables clear vision in challenging light conditions, reducing glare from oncoming cars or street lights at night and providing a clear view of the road while driving. It does all this without any compromises in terms of comfort: lenses with DuraVision® DriveSafe coating are everyday lenses optimized for driving and can be worn during the day and at night. At the same time, they come with a hard coating in the familiar ZEISS quality and a CleanCoat finish for easy cleaning.

Our Tip for All Plastic Lenses - With or Without Coatings
Even if your glasses have a hard coating to protect them from scratches, you should always clean your lenses and frames only with quality lens cleaning products that will not damage them. Avoid quickly cleaning your lenses with a tissue, tie, sweater, sleeve, or whatever you have on hand, as this will transfer all the dirt onto the lenses, which can result in micro-scratches even if you have modern hard-coated plastic lenses.
As is the case with many other things in life, the better you take care of them, the longer you will be able to enjoy all their benefits.
Wet lens cleaning wipes from ZEISS are an excellent option for cleaning your eyeglass lenses. They are thorough, practical and compact. Of course, you can use a simple microfiber cloth, but keep in mind that dry cloths are not always ideal, especially for removing grease. It is better to wet the cloth first (e.g. with a lens cleaning spray).
